The second SUP CHAMPS SUPolo World Series Tournament in Torquay
(Saturday 6th September 2025)
SUP Polo: A Spectator’s Delight
Saturday featured the fun and frenetic sport of WSUPolo, overseen by Brian Johncey of Blue Chip. Held in the sheltered inner harbour, SUP Polo was the perfect way to engage both participants and spectators in a more relaxed but equally competitive atmosphere. Throughout the day, 5 teams battled it out for SUPolo supremacy, with the Bears of Fury ultimately taking the crown. All the teams put on a show with the Raiders coming second, the Buccaneers in third place, Waterborn Warriors in forth and the Blue-Bar Barian in fifth.
However, the real highlight of the day came when the World Series umpire Brian Johncey’s hand-picked “select team” faced off against a SUP CHAMPS team. In classic Brian style, with the SUP CHAMPS team trailing 9-1 at nearly full time, he called out the iconic phrase:
“next goal wins.” The SUP CHAMPS team was now fighting with renewed energy, then Brendon Prince facing his own goal took a backwards overhead long shot and hammered home a fantastic goal which claimed an unexpected but thrilling victory, much to the delight of the crowd.
